"Play Day," a captivating sculpture crafted from BC Black Chlorite, vividly captures the serene essence of a bear at rest. The artist's skillful use of black chlorite, known for its deep, lustrous hue, brings a striking contrast to the bear's detailed fur and expressive features. This medium, prized for its workability and polish, allows for intricate carvings that highlight the bear's lifelike posture and playful demeanor. The rounded forms and polished surfaces emphasize the natural beauty of the stone, reflecting light in a way that animates the sculpture. This piece, measuring 7 inches by 7 inches by 8.5 inches and weighing 13 pounds, showcases the harmony between the natural world and artistic expression. "Play Day" invites comparison with "Forest Stroll," another bear sculpture in the collection, which depicts a grizzly bear carved from BC Green Brucite, happily strolling through the forest, celebrating nature's daily adventures.
