Borealis: A Northern Legacy is a monumental life-size polar bear sculpture celebrating the quiet strength and devotion of a mother bear and her three cubs. Featured at the Four Seasons Resort Whistler, this extraordinary work of Canadian stone art captures an intimate wildlife moment with remarkable scale and craftsmanship.
Hand carved over eleven months by master sculptors Jon Fathom and Joe Cho, the sculpture emerged from a single 14,000-pound block of Vancouver Island marble, gradually revealing the graceful forms within the stone. Every contour of the bears has been shaped to convey both the immense strength and gentle presence that define these remarkable animals.
The finished sculpture weighs approximately 6,000 pounds and measures 5.5 ft × 5.5 ft × 4 ft, accompanied by an additional 500 lb cub that enhances the narrative of maternal protection and northern resilience.
Every contour of the marble reveals the artists’ dedication to capturing the power, tenderness, and enduring bonds of polar bears in the wild. The natural luminosity of Vancouver Island marble allows the sculpture to shift subtly in light, bringing depth and presence to both luxury interior spaces and outdoor landscapes.
Suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation, it was created to become a focal point within a luxury residence, private sculpture garden, or resort environment. This museum-quality sculpture stands as a remarkable statement piece for collectors of fine wildlife sculpture, luxury architectural art, and large-scale Canadian stone masterpieces.
As the seventh work in the prestigious Fathom Stone Life-Size Polar Bear Collection—a series admired by collectors, luxury resorts, and private estates worldwide—Borealis: A Northern Legacy continues a celebrated legacy honoring the wildlife and spirit of the North.
