Mining of Industrial Minerals in Southeast Alaska
In the mountainsides of Southeast Alaska, prospectors also located what are known as the industrial minerals, the nonmetallic, non-fuel resources essential to construction and for industry. The importance of these non-metallic to the industrial economy is easily overlooked. They are bulky and usually low-value products. Their production is seldom dramatic, and there is often not the opportunity to get rich quickly which lured so many to gold mining.
